Play Sumner is a nonprofit youth basketball organization built on four words: play, compete, connect, belong. We give Sumner County kids a team, a coach who cares and a reason to keep showing up.

About us
More than a team
Play Sumner began with a simple observation: our county has no shortage of kids who love basketball, and not nearly enough places for them to play. Families were driving out of town for court time. Talented players were sitting out because fees were too high. We decided to do something about it.
Today Play Sumner houses youth AAU basketball teams that compete across the region. Our coaches are mentors who teach the game and the habits that outlast it — showing up on time, working when nobody is watching, owning mistakes and lifting up teammates. Wins matter to us. Who our players become matters more.
As a nonprofit, every dollar we raise goes back into kids: sponsorship funds for families who need them, quality coaching, safe places to train and uniforms our athletes are proud to wear. We are building toward something bigger for Sumner County, and it starts with the players in our gym right now.

AAU Teams
Boys and girls travel teams competing through the spring and summer circuit under the Play Sumner name. We stay close to home, playing tournaments around the Nashville area.
Skills Training
Small-group skill work focused on fundamentals, basketball IQ and physical development by age group.
Sponsorship Funds
Sponsor dollars that cover team fees, uniforms and travel so cost never decides who gets to play.
Coach Development
Training and background-checked certification for volunteer coaches who mentor our teams year round.
Signature event
Sumner Shootout
Play Sumner is proud to be the home of Sumner Shootout, a 4th of July weekend free throw competition open to kids in grades K through 12. Every grade crowns its own champion, plus a Mom and Dad competition. Entry is $20 per shooter, and every dollar helps fund our AAU teams, programs and new facility. Open to everyone, not just Sumner County.

Play Sumner is donor funded. One-time gifts and monthly giving both go straight to sponsorship funds, coaching and court time for local athletes.
